Search for New NC State Chancellor Begins with 13-Member Committee

RALEIGH, N.C. (WBTV) – A 13-member committee has been established to find the next chancellor for North Carolina State University.

University of North Carolina System President Peter Hans announced on Friday that Ed Stack, a 1992 NC State alumnus and vice chair of the university’s Board of Trustees, will lead the search advisory committee.

“I appreciate Mr. Stack for agreeing to chair this important committee,” Hans said. “I also want to extend my thanks to Mr. Weisiger for his leadership on the Board of Trustees and his contribution to this committee. Both are dedicated supporters of the university, and we’re fortunate to have such a skilled and committed group working to find NC State’s next leader.”

The formation of the committee follows Chancellor Randy Woodson’s recent announcement of his retirement in 2025, marking the end of his 15-year tenure at the helm of NC State.

The search advisory committee members are:

  • Charles Hall: NC State Staff Senate chair and communications manager for electrical and computer engineering
  • Peter Hans: UNC System president

  • David M. Powers (’83): NC State Board of Trustees member
  • Dewayne Washington (’01): Partner at NSV Development
  • Edward I. “Ed” Weisiger Jr. (’82): NC State Board of Trustees chair

According to UNC System policy, the committee includes up to 13 voting members representing trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. It also mandates the inclusion of a current or former chancellor from a UNC System institution, members of the UNC Board of Governors, and the UNC System president or his designee.

Public input will be sought throughout the search process via an online survey and in-person listening sessions scheduled for the upcoming fall semester.
