The Cardinals travel to virtual South Bend to face the Fighting Irish for their first road matchup of the season

Welcome to the ‘Louisville Preseason CFB25 Preview Series,’ where the team at Louisville Report simulates each of the Cardinals’ 2024 season games using the video game ‘EA Sports College Football 25.’

Next up is Louisville’s first road game of the season at Notre Dame.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Stepping up in competition on the virtual field, the Louisville football program delivered in front of the home crowd.

In their ACC opener against Georgia Tech, the Cardinals pulled away in the second half to secure a 43-29 win, maintaining their undefeated record through the first quarter of the 2024 season.

Quarterback Tyler Shough had another standout performance, completing 26 of 32 passes for 377 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks also shined, catching six passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite being outgained in yardage 474 to 458, the Cardinals’ defense made crucial turnovers. Linebacker/safety Benjamin Perry had two interceptions, including a pick-six, and made 11 tackles. Safety M.J. Griffin led the game with 15 tackles, while defensive ends Ashton Gillotte and Mason Reiger each had three tackles for loss and a sack.

This week, Louisville faces one of their biggest games of the season, traveling to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. In College Football 25, the Fighting Irish have a 90 overall rating, with their defense also rated 90 and their offense at 85.

Coming off a real-world 2023 season where they ranked fifth in the FBS in total defense, Notre Dame’s defense is formidable, featuring three All-Americans. Cornerback Benjamin Morrison is rated 94 overall, safety Xavier Watts is a 92, and defensive tackle Howard Cross III is a 90, supported by significant depth and talent.

Notre Dame’s offense is also strong. Duke transfer quarterback Riley Leonard is rated 88 overall, All-American candidate tight end Mitchell Evans is a 90, and running back Jeremiyah Love is an 85. The Irish also have a solid wide receiver corps and offensive line.
