Cleveland Guardians President of Baseball Operations, Chris Antonetti, has not ruled out the possibility of further moves before the 2025 MLB season begins. The Guardians’ offseason has been unusual for a team that was just three wins away from the World Series a year ago.
Rather than adding to the core that made a deep postseason run in 2024, the Guardians traded away key players like Andres Gimenez and Josh Naylor, resulting in a completely revamped right side of the infield.
On paper, many of Cleveland’s moves appear to be lateral, raising the question of whether the Guardians will make any more changes before Opening Day.
Antonetti addressed these concerns on the Cleveland Guardians Podcast, offering insight into the front office’s mindset. “That remains to be seen. I’m not quite sure. We’ll continue to explore opportunities to add to our group if the right opportunities arise,” Antonetti said. “If not, and this is the group we go with in Spring Training, I feel that we’re better positioned to succeed now than we were at the start of the offseason.”
While Antonetti doesn’t dismiss the idea of more trades or free-agent acquisitions, he expressed confidence in the current roster. If the Guardians were to make additional moves, it would likely be to acquire a veteran starter capable of pitching 150 or more innings or a proven outfield bat.
It will be interesting to see how the Cleveland roster takes shape as Spring Training approaches in just over a month.
