East Carolina Ranked Seventh in AAC Preseason Poll

IRVING, Texas – As it enters its 11th season in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), East Carolina University (ECU) has been ranked seventh in the 2024 AAC Preseason Media Poll, tied with Rice. This ranking was determined by votes from media members, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

The AAC welcomed Army as a new member in July, replacing SMU, which moved to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Both ECU and Rice garnered 219 points in the poll, placing them just ahead of North Texas, which earned 216 points. Memphis emerged as the favorite, amassing 409 points and receiving 23 first-place votes. UTSA (368 points/4 votes), Tulane (362 points/2 votes), and Army (236 points/1 vote) also received first-place votes.

The AAC Football Championship, featuring the top two teams from the regular season’s single-division standings, is scheduled for December 6 and will be broadcast on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Under the leadership of sixth-year head coach Mike Houston, who holds an all-time record of 104-59 and a 24-34 record at ECU, the Pirates are set to kick off the 2024 season at home against Norfolk State on August 31 at 6 p.m. ET, with streaming available on ESPN+. Their non-conference schedule includes home games against Appalachian State (September 14 at 4 p.m.) and away games at Old Dominion (September 7 at 6 p.m.) and Liberty (September 21 at 6 p.m.). ECU’s conference play begins on September 28 when they host UTSA.
