Shedeur Sanders calls out Coach Prime’s ‘separation anxiety’ after crashing interview

Shedeur Sanders humorously teased his father, Deion Sanders, about having “separation anxiety” after Coach Prime repeatedly FaceTimed him during an interview at the East-West Shrine Bowl, even though Shedeur wasn’t playing in the game. While chatting with NFL Network’s Jane Slater, Shedeur laughed and explained, “My dad was calling me non-stop. He has separation anxiety, so he kept calling. I said, ‘Pops, it’s time for me to stand on my own.’ The coaches got a kick out of that.” Despite the playful moment, Shedeur maintained a confident demeanor, signaling that he’s ready for the next phase of his football career.

This exchange highlights the close bond between Shedeur and his father, with Deion being heavily involved in his son’s journey. When asked about his dad’s influence, Shedeur replied, “I didn’t know your parents wanting the best for you and being involved was a problem.” This comment referred to a moment when Deion crashed Shedeur’s interview with the Tennessee Titans via FaceTime, bringing his usual “Prime Time” flair to the conversation.

Shedeur’s performance ahead of the NFL Draft has kept him in the spotlight. As one of the top quarterback prospects for 2025, alongside Miami’s Cam Ward, Shedeur’s stock has only risen. His standout season at Colorado, where he led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record and an Alamo Bowl appearance, further solidified his reputation. He set new school records for passing yards (4,134), touchdowns (37), and completion percentage (74.0%), earning honors like the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and first-team All-Big 12 recognition.

Shedeur has already met with teams such as the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants, all of which hold top picks in the draft. However, Deion has hinted that he wants his son to land in the best situation, potentially influencing Shedeur’s decision. Coach Prime even mentioned he might “pull an Eli,” referring to Eli Manning’s 2004 draft strategy to avoid being selected by a team he didn’t want to play for. While the Browns are still interested in Shedeur as their future quarterback, Deion’s involvement could add an extra layer of intrigue to draft night, ensuring his son finds the best fit for his NFL career.
