The San Francisco Giants have made a surprising move by optioning Camilo Doval to Triple-A, as reported by Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. Despite some struggles this season, including a 4.70 ERA and 1.61 WHIP, Doval was considered one of the promising closers in Major League Baseball not long ago, even posting a sub-2.60 ERA just two seasons ago.

The Giants are currently focused on winning and, while their season has not gone as smoothly as hoped, they’ve started to improve recently. Now just three games out of the National League Wild Card spot, they need all players performing at their best, which hasn’t been the case for Doval.

It will be intriguing to see when they decide to bring him back, as this move might be aimed at helping him rebuild his confidence in Triple-A.

Following a rough outing on Thursday, where he allowed three earned runs and a home run—almost costing the Giants a win against the Washington Nationals—the coaching staff and front office appear to have reached their limit.

In his place, Landen Roupp has been called up to bolster the bullpen. He has faced difficulties in his 11 games in the majors this season, sporting a 6.06 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 16 1/3 innings. However, Roupp has performed better in the minors, achieving a 3.80 ERA in Triple-A.
