Do the Rockets want a star that bad?

Despite the excitement surrounding the Houston Rockets’ quest for a marquee player this offseason, the front office ultimately chose to stay the course. Their notable acquisition came through the draft with Reed Sheppard, who could provide the much-needed shooting the team has been lacking.

However, it’s clear they’re not finished in their pursuit of stars.

Reports indicate that the Rockets are biding their time for a few select players to become available. Since Ime Udoka took over, they’ve been signing players to favorable contracts to create more tradeable salaries. They also possess a significant amount of draft capital.

In essence, they are poised to make a move when the right opportunity arises.

Could this opportunity present itself at next year’s trade deadline? According to Michael Saenz of Sir Charles in Charge, it’s possible. Saenz suggests that the team might target New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram.

“It was somewhat surprising that the Rockets didn’t make a win-now move this summer. However, it may just be a matter of time before they feel compelled to make a big trade, perhaps at the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.

If Kevin Durant isn’t likely to be available soon, the Rockets might consider another dynamic wing player currently on the trade block: Brandon Ingram. He could fit well into their plans based on his talent, though his contract could be a deterrent.

Nonetheless, if the Rockets find themselves in a tough situation, Ingram could become a serious trade target at the NBA Trade Deadline.”

The Pelicans reportedly approached the Rockets about a deal involving Alperen Sengun for Ingram, but the Rockets wisely declined.

Will they change their mind about Ingram if they face urgent needs? Only time will tell.
