Colin Cowherd was mistaken about Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, and comedian Bill Burr couldn’t be happier about it.
Baker Mayfield, quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has faced skepticism from many, including NFL insiders. After being let go by the Cleveland Browns in favor of DeShaun Watson, he bounced between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams before landing in Tampa Bay. Along the way, he also faced criticism from analysts and others.
One of his most vocal critics has been FOX’s Colin Cowherd, who’s taken aim at Mayfield for various reasons, from his backward cap to calling him “undraftable.” Cowherd’s ongoing feud with Mayfield resurfaced during Super Bowl media week when comedian Bill Burr appeared on Julian Edelman’s podcast, Games With Names.
During the conversation about quarterbacks, Edelman asked Burr about Mayfield. Burr responded in his signature style, expressing his admiration for the Buccaneers QB while also taking a jab at Cowherd.
“I love f**king Baker Mayfield,” Burr said. “And I love that Colin Cowherd has to stay up at night, knowing he was wrong and can’t admit it. And his desk is just going to keep getting bigger.”
To Cowherd’s credit, he has eventually acknowledged Mayfield’s success in Tampa Bay, though he still can’t resist throwing in some critiques from time to time.
Mayfield had an impressive 2024 season, throwing 41 touchdowns, his best year yet. Now, he’s hoping to build on that success with a new offensive coordinator, Josh Grizzard, who was promoted to the role this offseason.
