Boston clearly will be looking to add to the starting rotation this winter

The Boston Red Sox will head into the upcoming offseason facing the same major issue as last year: a lack of depth in their starting rotation. Last offseason, Boston sought pitching help and acquired Lucas Giolito, who has not played this season due to injury, forcing the team to adapt without him. This time around, the Red Sox are again in the market for pitchers and may aim for a significant addition.

There will be many free-agent options available, and one potential target for Boston is Jack Flaherty from the Los Angeles Dodgers, as noted by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

“Flaherty’s initial foray into free agency last year was disappointing, leading him to sign a one-year, $ 14 million contract with the Detroit Tigers,” Feinsand explained. “His gamble proved successful: Flaherty performed admirably in 18 starts for Detroit before being traded to the Dodgers before the Trade Deadline. Given the currently limited but top-tier starting pitching market, he is likely to secure the multi-year deal that eluded him last offseason. Possible landing spots include the Dodgers, New York Mets, and the Red Sox.”

Flaherty is enjoying one of his best seasons, boasting a 3.06 ERA over 21 starts with both Detroit and Los Angeles. This kind of performance could be just what Boston needs to elevate the team in 2025 and beyond.
