Rearview Mirror: Projecting The BYU Football Depth Chart Now That Fall Camp Is Over

The 2024 fall camp is behind us, and BYU is gearing up for its season opener against Southern Illinois. On Monday, the first depth chart of the season will be released. Today, we’ll project the depth chart based on observations from fall camp.

When the actual depth chart is unveiled, expect to see many “ORs.” We’ll aim to be more definitive and predict the rotations as accurately as possible.

Quarterback
Jake Retzlaff OR Gerry Bohanon
Right away, we broke our promise by using an “OR.” We previously explained why this is justified, as the competition has been extremely close. It’s nearly 50/50, but Retzlaff has shown recent improvement. Given this momentum, we’re betting on Retzlaff to take the lead. However, one strong practice from Bohanon could shift the balance in his favor.

This quarterback battle has been tightly contested, and either player could be named the starter for Southern Illinois.

Running Back
LJ Martin
Hinckley Ropati
No surprises here. The running back depth chart has been clear since camp began, with LJ Martin recognized as BYU’s top back when healthy, followed by Hinckley Ropati, who will share the bulk of the carries alongside Miles Davis.

Tight End

With numerous tight ends rotating in and out, predicting this backup spot has been challenging. However, Keanu Hill looks poised to be named the starter.
