Just In: Maryland Men’s Soccer Adds Power-Forward Sensation From Portugal

Maryland men’s soccer has signed forward Cristiano Fitzgerald, a 20-year-old who previously played in Liga Portugal, the premier division of Portuguese soccer, head coach Sasho Cirovski announced on Tuesday.

Fitzgerald has been with two Liga Portugal teams over the past two seasons but has yet to find the back of the net. Born in Singapore, he has also played for youth clubs in both Portugal and California. Due to his Irish heritage, he represented Ireland’s U19 national team in 2021.

Cirovski noted that Fitzgerald has the potential to bring creativity to Maryland’s wing attack during the Terps’ fall sports media day on Tuesday.

Fitzgerald was named after the iconic Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
