Just In: Massive Boost As Severe Years Elite Coaching Veteran Joins Commodores’ staff

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Andy Farrell has been appointed as the director of basketball operations for the Vanderbilt men’s basketball program, as announced by head coach Mark Byington on Wednesday.

“Andy brings extensive experience in various aspects of college athletics and basketball,” Byington remarked. “He is highly organized, passionate, and eager to contribute to a successful program. It’s crucial to have individuals like him as we develop our team.”

Farrell makes his way to Nashville after serving one season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Siena, where he was also the NIL contact for the men’s basketball program, in addition to his coaching and recruiting responsibilities.

Before his time at Siena, Farrell spent six years on Anthony Grant’s staff at Dayton. Initially, he worked as the director of scouting and program development for two seasons before moving into the role of special assistant to the head coach and recruiting coordinator for the final four years.

During the 2019-20 season, he played a key role in Dayton’s impressive 29-2 record, which saw the team rise to No. 3 in the AP poll. He contributed to recruiting and coaching four NBA Draft picks and two All-Americans, and was vital in promoting Obi Toppin’s player of the year campaign, as well as organizing public events, basketball camps, and managing social media and marketing efforts for the program.

Earlier in his career, Farrell was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Southwest Mississippi Community College for three seasons (2014-2017), spent one season in the same roles at Longwood (2013-14), and worked for two seasons as the director of operations and assistant recruiting coordinator at DePaul (2011-13).

His coaching journey began at VCU as a graduate assistant in 2007-08, followed by roles as a video coordinator at Clemson and DePaul from 2008-11.

Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Farrell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Dayton in 2007 and earned a master’s in sport leadership/coaching from VCU in 2009.
