Tribute to a Legend: Georgia Tech Men’s Basketball Remembers Hall of Fame Star
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s basketball mourns the loss of Hall of Fame player Pres Judy, who died last weekend while on vacation in Hilton Head, S.C. He was 80 years old.
Coleman Preston “Pres” Judy, Jr. was a three-year starter for the Yellow Jackets from 1964 to 1967, averaging 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists under head coach Whack Hyder. The 6-3 forward totaled 915 points in his collegiate career.
Hailing from Lexington, Ky., Judy was recognized as a first-team all-state basketball player and a second-team all-state football player in his senior year at Henry Clay High School, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017. He was drafted by both the ABA’s Kentucky Colonels and the NBA’s Cincinnati Royals but chose to forgo a professional career to pursue coaching instead. This decision eventually led him to a long career with Olympus Corporation of the Americas, a medical endoscopy company.
His son, Matt, also attended Georgia Tech and served as a student manager for the basketball team from 1996 to 2000.
