The Penn State Nittany Lions have just finished a successful run to the College Football Playoff semifinals, and they’re set to return key players like quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen for the 2025 season. Additionally, they have brought in Jim Knowles as their new defensive coordinator, previously from Ohio State.
However, the program faced some disappointing news on the recruiting front on Friday. Wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford, a prospect from the Class of 2026, has decommitted from Penn State after initially choosing the school back in December, as he announced on his X account. “After extensive discussions with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from Penn State and reopen my recruitment,” Guilford stated. “This was not an easy choice.”
“Given the shifting dynamics of college recruiting, I want to make a decision that is as close to ideal as possible for my future,” Guilford stated. The Class of 2026 wide receiver expressed gratitude to the Penn State coaches and supporters, specifically mentioning wide receivers coach Marquise Hagans and head coach James Franklin.
Guilford, a three-star recruit from Northrop High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was initially drawn to programs like Georgia, Ohio State, and Indiana before selecting Penn State in December. Before Guilford’s decommitment, the Penn State 2026 recruiting class was ranked fourth nationally by 247Sports. Earlier in February, Michigan also extended an offer to Guilford, further complicating things for the Penn State program as he reopens his recruitment.
