As the New Orleans Pelicans approach the season’s start, there’s ongoing speculation about Brandon Ingram’s future.

This offseason, Ingram was a hot topic in trade rumors, especially since he’s nearing free agency and the Pelicans haven’t shown much enthusiasm for offering him a significant contract.

While many anticipated a trade involving Ingram, the Pelicans were active in the market, acquiring Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.

Recently, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report mentioned the San Antonio Spurs as a potential landing spot for Ingram in a trade.

“Since Victor Wembanyama is on his rookie deal and Devin Vassell’s contract is below max, San Antonio might justify a slight overpay for Ingram for the next few years (though agreeing to a max deal might be tough),” he noted.

“And if any organization can help maximize Ingram’s defensive potential, it could be San Antonio.”

Joining the Spurs would be an exciting opportunity for Ingram, as the team looks to pair a star with Wembanyama, who showed immense potential in his rookie season and could become one of the league’s best players.

Combining Ingram with Wembanyama would create a lengthy duo, as Wembanyama is arguably the league’s top shot-blocker, and Ingram’s wing span makes him a strong defender as well.

However, similar to his role in New Orleans, the offensive dynamic might pose challenges, as Ingram tends to thrive with the ball in his hands and isn’t an ideal floor spacer, which limits his compatibility with other players.

Despite potential offensive concerns, Ingram would be a significant boost for the Spurs, especially as a player who can consistently score over 20 points per game. If the Pelicans face difficulties at the season’s outset, the Spurs have the assets to facilitate a trade if it aligns with their strategy.
