The Memphis Grizzlies only managed to win 27 games last season, ending a streak of three consecutive playoff appearances. They recorded the highest number of missed games due to injuries, and Ja Morant only played nine games, suffering a season-ending shoulder injury shortly after returning from a 25-game suspension. Memphis is eager to rebound, but can they?

Improved health is crucial. Jaren Jackson Jr. played 66 games last season, while Desmond Bane appeared in 42. No franchise can withstand so many missed games from key players, and Memphis was no different. GG Jackson is currently injured, but the rest of the team aims to show that last season was an anomaly.

However, there are no guarantees, particularly regarding Morant’s availability. At 25, he has a history of injuries, and his aggressive style likely puts him at risk for more. The Grizzlies depend on Morant, but how many games can they realistically count on him for?

If Morant is sidelined, it could jeopardize the Grizzlies’ season. He played 67 games as a rookie during a shortened season but has never surpassed that number and has only topped 60 games on three occasions over five years. There may even come a time when the team has no point guard available.

Availability is key, and there are major concerns about Morant’s potential playing time. While he is set for full participation in training camp, any additional injuries could drastically impact the season.

The Western Conference is highly competitive. Although Memphis enjoyed back-to-back 50-win seasons, there’s no guarantee they’ll reach that level again. Every game will be vital, with teams like the Thunder, Mavericks, Nuggets, Timberwolves, and Suns all vying for the championship. With seven other teams also aiming for playoff spots, the competition is fierce, leaving only ten spots for twelve contenders. Some teams will inevitably face disappointment, and Memphis could be one of them if Morant is out for an extended period.

Ja Morant is sure to amaze Grizzlies fans this season, whether with spectacular dunks or incredible shots. The franchise is hoping for improved health and luck this year. Encouraging him to temper his game could be beneficial. Expect him to be outstanding and give Memphis a shot at returning to contention.
