Big Decision: Top Duo To Sign One-Day Contracts To Retire With Calgary Stampeders

Keon Raymond and Spencer Wilson, both two-time all-stars and Grey Cup champions with the Calgary Stampeders, have signed one-day contracts to officially retire with the team.

Head coach and general manager Dave Dickenson expressed gratitude in a statement, saying, “We appreciate what both of these players contributed to our city and our organization. They made significant impacts on the community and the sport, and we’re thrilled they are returning to retire as Stampeders. They will always be part of our family.”

Raymond played as a defensive back for the Stampeders from 2008 to 2015, amassing 337 defensive tackles, 18 special teams tackles, 24 interceptions, 10 sacks, and six fumble recoveries. He was named a West Division all-star in 2011 and 2012 and helped the team secure Grey Cup victories in 2008 and 2014.

Originally from St. Louis, Mo., Raymond ended his career with the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2016. However, he and his family have since made Calgary their home.

“Signing and retiring as a Calgary Stampeder is a way to close an unforgettable chapter in my life. It’s more than just hanging up my cleats; it’s about celebrating the journey, the camaraderie, and the fans who made every moment special,” Raymond stated. “As I move into the next phase of life, I’m excited for new challenges and will embrace every opportunity with the same passion and purpose that defined my career.”

Wilson participated in 107 regular season games with the Stampeders, playing all five positions on the offensive line between 2011 and 2018, contributing to Grey Cup victories in 2014 and 2018. A native of Toronto, he was named a CFL all-star in 2015 and 2016, concluding his career with the Montreal Alouettes in 2019.

“Calgary has always been more than just a city to me — it’s been home. I’ve been fortunate to wear the red and white for so many years, and it feels right to officially close this chapter of my life where it all began,” Wilson expressed.

“Signing a one-day contract with the Stampeders isn’t just a formality; it’s a way to express my gratitude to the organization, the fans, and my teammates for the incredible journey we’ve shared. I’m proud to retire as a Stampeder and thankful for every moment on the field with this team.”

The Calgary Stampeders (4-8-1) will face the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-7-1) at home on Friday, Sept. 20, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EDT.
