Texans Expected to Make Significant Trade with Patriots

The Houston Texans have been highly active this offseason, making a variety of free-agent signings, restructuring contracts, offering extensions, and completing some big trades.

However, according to Jordy McElroy of Patriots Wire, the Texans may not be finished making moves.

In his recent seven-round mock draft for the New England Patriots, McElroy predicts that the Texans will trade their 25th overall pick to the Patriots in exchange for their second and third-round selections, at No. 38 and No. 77.

This trade idea is an interesting one for Houston, especially considering they also hold picks 58 and 79 in the second and third rounds. However, it raises the question of whether the Texans would want to drop 13 spots when they have urgent needs to address. It seems unlikely.

One of the Texans’ biggest priorities is fixing their offensive line, particularly after trading star tackle Laremy Tunsil earlier this month. Houston allowed 52 sacks in 2024 and had one of the league’s worst offensive lines, even with Tunsil. Given the situation, the Texans have a lot of work ahead in the trenches.

There should be a number of solid offensive linemen available at No. 25, so while the idea of acquiring more draft capital by trading down may be tempting, the Texans would likely be better off selecting the best lineman available with their first-round pick.

With limited financial flexibility entering the offseason, the Texans faced challenges in improving through free agency. The NFL Draft now represents their best chance to strengthen the team, making it essential for Houston to approach the draft thoughtfully.
