Charlotte ATH Kendric Davis commits to East Carolina

The Pirates add a projected linebacker for the 2025 class from the Charlotte area.

East Carolina’s recent significant recruiting weekend has resulted in another verbal commitment, this time coming from Kendric Davis, an athlete from Palisades High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Davis, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect, had received offers from many FBS programs such as App State, Charlotte, James Madison, Liberty, Temple, and Western Kentucky.

Davis is envisioned as a future linebacker for ECU, likely to occupy the SAM or WILL positions in the team’s defensive setup. These roles typically demand a more agile player, adept at covering passes and moving in space, as well as excelling in blitzing situations.

Sharing his decision on social media, Davis expressed, “After thoughtful consideration and guidance, I believe this is the right path for me. Grateful to the coaches who have shown faith in me. Therefore, I am proud to announce my commitment to ECU.”

It has been since June of the previous year that Davis has been on East Carolina’s radar as a top recruiting target. He received an offer on June 3, 2023, during camp season, when his speed, length, and athleticism caught the attention of the Pirates at a prospect camp in Georgia. He was actively pursued by defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Blake Harrell.

After completing his sophomore season at Harding University, Davis made the move to Palisades, where he played as a linebacker for a Pumas team that finished with a 3-7 record. In his game footage, he predominantly operates as an inside linebacker, demonstrating his effectiveness in blitzing and making impactful plays with his physicality and tackling skills. However, there is limited footage of Davis in coverage or showcasing lateral movement, areas he must work on to meet the demands of ECU’s defensive system.

In addition to football, Davis is a versatile athlete at Palisades, having also participated in basketball as a junior, averaging 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game over 21 matches.

Davis becomes the second commitment of the day to declare for East Carolina, following defensive end Amari Wilson from Colquitt County in Georgia. Alongside Wilson and Davis in ECU’s current 2025 commitment lineup are safety Durante Speer (Columbia, GA), running back Eddie Love Jr. (Fort Walton Beach, FL), wide receiver Connor Hodge (Christian Academy of Louisville, KY), wide receiver Johnny Williams (Havelock, NC), offensive lineman Jonathan Stokes (Randleman, NC), and quarterback Chaston Ditta (Lake Travis, TX).
