Despite being relatively new to the program, offensive line coach Tyler Bowen is already making a major impact on the recruiting trail. After securing top in-state lineman Maxwell Riley in the 2026 class, Bowen landed another major addition earlier this week with Sam Greer, reaffirming that Ryan Day made the right hire to lead the unit.

Bowen’s success continued Wednesday when Ohio State picked up a commitment from Arizona offensive lineman Tucker Smith. The No. 798 overall player and No. 71 interior lineman in the 2026 class (per the 247Sports Composite), Smith’s recruitment moved quickly. After making his first visit to Columbus just last week and earning an offer, it didn’t take long for him to decide that Ohio State was the right fit.

Smith chose the Buckeyes over offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, USC, and Washington. At 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, he brings a strong wrestling background and is viewed as an ideal interior line prospect by Ohio State’s staff.

Now with seven commits in the 2026 class and a group rapidly climbing the rankings, Ohio State’s recruiting momentum continues to build. With Bowen off to a strong start and the offensive line being a crucial position group every year, the Buckeyes appear to be in great shape moving forward.

In-State Running Back Set for Another Ohio State Visit

As Ohio State returns to the practice field today, the Buckeyes have another opportunity to improve both on and off the field this spring. One of those prospects, in-state running back Favour Akih, is set to visit campus again on Thursday for another unofficial visit. The buzz surrounding Akih continues to trend in Ohio State’s favor, as the Buckeyes have quickly emerged as the frontrunner for his commitment after extending an offer just over a week ago.

Ranked No. 205 nationally and the No. 15 running back in the 2026 class (per the 247Sports Composite), Akih has multiple official visits planned for the summer. However, his recruitment appears to be shaping up as a battle between Ohio State and Miami.

This latest visit to Columbus is significant, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Akih decided to commit while on campus. With Ohio State expected to take two running backs in this cycle, securing a top in-state talent would be a major win for the Buckeyes—and that news could become official sooner rather than later.
