Reports: South Carolina Coach Beamer Gives Injury Update On Two Fan favorites

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Injured quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Raheim Sanders from South Carolina are both practicing and recovering from ankle injuries as the Gamecocks gear up for their matchup against No. 12 Mississippi this week.

Coach Shane Beamer didn’t confirm if either player will be available on Saturday. However, Sellers has been named the starting quarterback after missing the second half of the game against LSU and sitting out the recent match against Akron two weeks ago.

Beamer commented on Sellers’ performance, saying, “He was good today. He did everything in practice, for sure.”

Sellers, a redshirt freshman, started in the first three games of the season. He left the game against No. 13 LSU with an ankle injury while the Gamecocks were leading 24-10 and did not return.

Although Sellers expressed to Beamer that he was ready to play against Akron, the coach opted to keep him sidelined during the Gamecocks’ 50-7 win against the Zips on September 21.

So far this season, Sellers has thrown for 393 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and has rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns.

Robby Ashford, a transfer from Auburn, stepped in for Sellers during the LSU game and made the start against Akron.

Sanders, a transfer from Arkansas, has been leading the Gamecocks with 286 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

The Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) are expected to release their SEC-required injury report for the game against Ole Miss (4-1, 0-1) on Wednesday.
