Just In: Highly Rated Four- Star QB Flips Commitment From Notre Dame to Auburn

Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has switched his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn, a decision he announced on Wednesday. This change follows weeks of speculation about his intent to leave his original pledge made in September 2023. Knight, a key member of Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class and hailing from Mississippi, is ranked among the Top 50 players by Rivals, On3, and 247 Sports.

“He is the most polarizing prospect in the class,” stated Cooper Petagna, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports. “It’s not just because he plays quarterback. His physical potential is limitless. With a 42-inch vertical jump and a strong track and field background, including his brother playing at Indiana, he truly checks every box.”

Standing at 6’4”, Deuce Knight is recognized as one of the most athletic quarterback talents in the 2025 class.

“If he were at the NFL scouting combine, he’d rank in the top one percent among quarterbacks,” Petagna emphasized. “The key question for Knight is his development as a passer. Judging from this offseason, it seems likely. He performed exceptionally well at the Elite 11 finals, consistently showing improvement every time I’ve seen him.”

CJ Carr Waiting in the Wings
Even with Knight’s departure, Notre Dame’s future at quarterback looks promising, led by dual-threat QB Riley Leonard. Consensus four-star recruit CJ Carr, a crucial part of Notre Dame’s 2024 class, is expected to shine for the Irish in the future. This year, he will be competing with Leonard and Steve Angeli for the starting QB position.

Carr, who is 6’3” and weighs 210 pounds, is from Saline, Michigan, and is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. He chose Notre Dame over offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Michigan. Last season in high school, Carr completed 199 of 292 passes (68.2 percent), throwing for 2,754 yards and 24 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He also rushed for 91 yards and nine touchdowns. Over his high school career, he completed 577 of 861 passes for 8,135 yards, totaling 78 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Carr made his debut for the Irish with a brief appearance in their 66-7 victory against Purdue in Week 3.
