OKC Thunder Clinch Top Seed in Western Conference
The Oklahoma City Thunder have secured the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference for the third consecutive season. Their 64th win came on the second night of a back-to-back series against the L.A. Clippers at the Intuit Dome, completing a sweep and cementing the Thunder’s position ahead of the San Antonio Spurs, who finished 61-21, locking in the No. 2 seed.
With this victory, Oklahoma City also claimed the NBA’s best overall record. The Detroit Pistons lead the Eastern Conference at 58-22 but cannot surpass the Thunder’s win total.
This remarkable stretch is historic: the Thunder are over 100 games above .500 over the past two seasons, with a combined record of 132-30. The franchise previously earned the No. 1 Western seed in 2023-24 with 57 wins and followed up with 68 wins last year. This season, the team has already reached 64 wins and counting.
The Thunder’s roster, featuring stars like Chet Holmgren and Cason Wallace, has experienced No. 1 seed success in every season of their NBA careers. OKC now holds home-court advantage throughout the entire postseason, including the NBA Finals. Their performance this season includes a 24-2 start, an 18-12 middle stretch, and a 22-2 finish in the last 24 games.
Oklahoma City wraps up the regular season on the road against the Denver Nuggets before concluding at the Paycom Center against the Phoenix Suns. The matchup in Denver may see strategic resting, as a Denver win could help separate the top contenders in the Western Conference bracket.
