Kansas Lands Visit from High-Scoring Transfer Guard Kameron Taylor
The Kansas Jayhawks will host UNC-Asheville guard Kameron Taylor this weekend, marking their first visit from a player in the transfer portal this offseason. The news was first reported by 247Sports analyst Dushawn London.
Taylor, a sophomore last season, led the Big South Conference in scoring with 18.9 points per game while also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. His performance earned him First Team All-Big South honors, following his selection to the All-Freshman Team the previous year. On3.com currently ranks him No. 78 among transfer portal prospects. He is represented by James Conley Jr., who works at the same agency as Kansas target Tyran Stokes’ agent.
Why Taylor Fits Kansas
At 6-foot-7, Taylor is an athletic, high-flying guard with a quick first step and strong finishing ability. He excels at attacking the rim and drawing fouls, averaging 7.0 free throw attempts per game while shooting 70.1%. His dunking ability and highlight-reel plays would likely energize the Allen Fieldhouse crowd.
In Big South play, Taylor averaged 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, shooting 47% from the field and 35% from three on five attempts per game. He is considered a promising long-term NBA prospect.
Areas of Concern
Taylor’s lean frame (185 pounds) could be a challenge against Big 12 competition, so adding strength will be key if he joins Kansas. He is also a limited outside shooter, hitting just 28.1% from three last season. Improvement in this area would make him a much more complete player at the wing position.
Other Schools Interested
Taylor has drawn attention from Florida State, Michigan, Texas, and others. He has already spoken with Florida State via Zoom and plans to visit Tallahassee after Lawrence. Kansas may have the best chance to secure his commitment during his campus visit this weekend.
