Stars Coach Pete DeBoer Criticizes Refs Over Disputed Call That Led to Oilers Goal

The Edmonton Oilers benefited from a controversial call in Game 3 against the Dallas Stars, which directly led to them scoring the opening goal in the first period.

Stars head coach Pete DeBoer was visibly frustrated by the decision.

The referees convened and ultimately decided that there was no delay of game penalty after an Oilers player appeared to have sent the puck over the glass. Despite clear video evidence showing Brett Kulak flicking the puck out of play, officials ruled there was no infraction. As a result, the Oilers weren’t penalized, and Dallas missed out on a potential power play opportunity. Just 10 seconds later, Edmonton capitalized with a goal by Evan Bouchard, followed shortly by another from Connor McDavid.

Pete DeBoer said he was not satisfied with the explanation for this missed call on Edmonton.

Clearly upset by the sequence of events, DeBoer expressed his displeasure during a sideline interview later in the period.

“No,” DeBoer replied when asked if he was satisfied with the explanation he received from the officials. “It should’ve been a penalty, and then a minute later, they score two goals.”

While DeBoer had every reason to be upset by the overturned call, it appeared his team lost focus, leading to a critical two-goal swing in the game.
