Illinois Guard Ty Rodgers Enters Transfer Portal
Illinois guard Ty Rodgers has officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Rodgers missed both the 2025–26 and 2024–25 seasons, undergoing knee surgery and ultimately taking a redshirt.
His last active season came in 2023–24, when he started all 38 games as a sophomore. During that year, he averaged 6.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 22.7 minutes per game while shooting an efficient 52.7% from the field, though he did not attempt any shots from beyond the arc. As a freshman, he averaged 3.3 points in 17.5 minutes per game.
Rodgers was a four-star recruit out of Thornton Township High School and ranked No. 64 overall and No. 18 among small forwards in the 2022 class, according to Rivals.
He becomes the third Illinois player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. The Fighting Illini are coming off a strong 2025–26 campaign, finishing 28–9 overall and 15–5 in conference play.
Illinois advanced to the Final Four for the first time since 2005 after winning four NCAA Tournament games before ultimately falling to UConn. Following the loss, head coach Brad Underwood reflected on the team’s run, praising the group’s character and expressing pride in both their success and the joy they brought to fans, while also emphasizing his desire to return to that stage again much sooner.
The NCAA Transfer Portal opened on April 7 and will close on April 21 as part of a new 15-day window. Players are not required to commit to a new school before the deadline.
