Elite Transfer Sensation Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame Adds Penn Transfer Forward Ethan Roberts

Penn forward Ethan Roberts has committed to Notre Dame, according to On3’s Pete Nakos, giving the Fighting Irish a key addition through the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-5 shooter is coming off a strong junior season in which he led Penn with 16.9 points per game while also averaging 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He shot 40.1% from the field and an impressive 40.4% from three-point range, earning All-Ivy League Second Team honors despite appearing in just 23 games.

Roberts missed both the Ivy League Tournament and any potential NCAA Tournament action after suffering a concussion in practice—his second head injury of the season. Earlier in the year, he also missed four non-conference games after another head injury sustained against Villanova.

Injuries have been a recurring challenge throughout Roberts’ career. He previously spent a season at Drake but did not play after suffering a preseason injury, ultimately redshirting. Before that, he began his college career at Army, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman with 33 appearances and 31 starts.

At Army, Roberts averaged 12.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, earning Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors and finishing among the conference’s top scorers. When healthy, he has consistently proven to be a high-level offensive threat.

A key pickup for Notre Dame

Roberts arrives at a critical time for Notre Dame, which is in the middle of a major roster rebuild. The team lost three of its top four scorers—Jalen Haralson, Markus Burton, and Cole Certa—to the transfer portal.

Burton has since committed to Indiana, while Certa is headed to Clemson. Haralson, one of the most sought-after players in the portal, recently chose Tennessee.

In total, seven players from last season’s roster entered the portal, leaving Notre Dame with significant gaps to fill. Roberts becomes the program’s first transfer addition as head coach Micah Shrewsberry works to reshape the team ahead of a pivotal upcoming season.
