Texas A&M Defensive Line Outlook After Onyedim, Regis Depart for NFL
The Texas A&M Aggies have reason to celebrate after Tyler Onyedim and Albert Regis achieved a major milestone by being selected in the NFL Draft. While it’s a proud moment for both players and the program, the focus quickly shifts back to preparing for the 2026 season.
With two key contributors from the interior defensive line now gone, Texas A&M faces the challenge of reshaping that unit as it aims to return to the College Football Playoff for a second straight year.
Filling the Void Up Front
Defense has been a cornerstone of the Aggies’ success under head coach Mike Elko, and last season was no exception. Their defensive line played a major role in that dominance, with Onyedim and Regis anchoring the unit. Now, CJ Mims and DJ Hicks are expected to step into larger roles.
Mims, a transfer from North Carolina, is projected to start at nose tackle. He’ll be supported by fellow transfers Angelo McCullom (Illinois) and Brandon Davis-Swain (Colorado), both experienced players capable of contributing in the rotation.
At defensive tackle, Hicks—one of the program’s more seasoned players—appears ready to take on a starting role. Behind him is Landon Rinks, who saw rotational action last season and should continue to provide depth. DJ Sanders, a redshirt freshman with a strong recruiting background, is another name to watch as he develops within the rotation.
Outlook for 2026
Although the Aggies lose two important pieces from their defensive front, the roster still features plenty of talent. With Mims and Hicks leading the way, Texas A&M looks well-positioned to maintain a strong presence on the defensive line heading into the new season.
