Saint Mary’s College transfer Andrew McKeever has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s basketball program, it was announced Friday by head coach Ben McCollum.
IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa men’s basketball has added Saint Mary’s transfer Andrew McKeever, head coach Ben McCollum announced Friday. The big man will have two years of eligibility left.
“Andrew stood out as an ideal fit for what we’re building,” McCollum said. “His size makes him highly effective on the boards at both ends of the floor. Offensively, he excels in pick-and-roll situations and is an exceptional passer. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the program.”
At 7-foot-3 and 285 pounds, McKeever becomes the tallest player in program history, surpassing Antonio Ramos (7-2). He is also the first seven-footer to join Iowa since Adam Woodbury, who played for the Hawkeyes from 2012 to 2016.
McKeever said Iowa offered the right environment to elevate his game. “I wanted to be part of a program that would challenge me to grow both on and off the court,” he said. “Coach McCollum’s development system and offensive approach are perfect for someone like me aiming to reach the next level.
“I’m excited to play in front of such a passionate fan base and can’t wait for the season to get started.”
McKeever becomes the second transfer addition and fourth overall signee for Iowa’s 2026–27 class, joining Illinois State transfer Ty’Reek Coleman, along with incoming freshmen Ethan Harris and Jaidyn Coon.

McKeever played in 33 games with 10 starts as a redshirt sophomore at Saint Mary’s, averaging 8.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He also contributed 28 blocks and 18 steals on the season. He shot 50 percent from the field (105-of-210) and 62.8 percent from the free-throw line (59-of-94).
He paced the West Coast Conference in rebounding, totaling 302 boards across 33 games, including 125 offensive rebounds (3.8 per game). McKeever recorded eight double-doubles, reached double figures in scoring 12 times, and grabbed 10 or more rebounds in 12 contests. He also posted at least eight rebounds in 23 games and dished out three or more assists in seven outings.
His top scoring performances included two 16-point efforts—going 7-of-8 from the field with eight rebounds against Tennessee Chattanooga (Nov. 7), and tallying 16 points, 17 rebounds, and five blocks versus Arkansas State (Nov. 19). He also delivered a standout all-around game at San Francisco (Jan. 13) with 10 points, a career-high 18 rebounds, and six assists. In the NCAA Tournament win over Santa Clara (March 9), he added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
As a redshirt freshman, McKeever appeared in 20 games, averaging 2.4 points and two rebounds while shooting 64.7 percent from the field. He earned West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week honors twice (Nov. 25 and Dec. 9) and redshirted during the 2023–24 campaign.
At Granada High School, he averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists as a senior, leading his team to the CIF Division I State Championship game. He earned second-team all-state honors, was named first-team All-East Bay Athletic League, and was recognized as Granada High School’s 2023 Athlete of the Year.
