Gators Land First Defensive Line Commit for Loaded 2027 Class
The Florida Gators continued building momentum in their 2027 recruiting cycle on Monday, securing their first defensive line pledge with Tampa Carrollwood Day three-star prospect De’Voun Kendrick.
Kendrick, a 6-foot-4, 275-pound lineman, chose Florida over programs like Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Texas Tech. Ranked among the top defensive line prospects nationally by 247Sports, he had been widely projected to land with the Gators in the days leading up to his announcement.
Strong Relationships Sealed the Decision
Kendrick pointed to his connection with Florida’s coaching staff as the biggest factor in his commitment. He highlighted his relationships with defensive line coach Gerald Chatman and assistant Jeremy Patterson, along with head coach Jon Sumrall, as key influences. Beyond football, he also emphasized the importance of academics and the overall environment at Florida.
His recruitment picked up quickly after receiving an offer during a March visit. He returned for the spring game in April and already has an official visit scheduled for June.
Recruiting Surge Continues
Kendrick becomes part of a busy stretch for Florida, marking the sixth commitment the program has secured in April alone. Recent additions include a mix of highly regarded prospects at multiple positions, further strengthening what is shaping up to be an impressive 2027 class.
The Gators aren’t done yet. Several other recruits are expected to announce decisions soon, and Florida is considered a strong contender for multiple targets across the country.
