Tulane Green Wave Pursue Another National Sailing Title
The Tulane sailing team is vying for yet another national championship. Currently competing in St. Mary’s City, Md., the Green Wave is in the midst of the Open Fleet Race National Championship.
Although they entered the tournament as the eighth seed, Tulane has fought its way to the finals, according to the team’s official website. This marks the fifth consecutive year they’ve reached the finals in the open fleet race, adding to their national title victory in 2022.
Can they do it again?
After completing 10 rotations, the Green Wave accumulated 139 points across two divisions. They dominated the B Division, with their team of skipper Christian Ebbin, Sabrina Anderson, and CJ Ricci finishing first with 47 points from 10 races.
In the A Division, Tulane’s Kelly Holthus served as skipper, with Taylor Bartell, Parker Kumler, and Sammie Gardner as her crew. Despite finishing 10th with 92 points, Holthus and Bartell managed a second-place finish in one of the races, the team’s best result.
The competition on the St. Mary’s River began on Thursday, May 29, and the championship will conclude with the final races on May 30.
Whether they come out on top or not, this marks another incredible achievement for the Green Wave as they aim for a national title, capping off a stellar season.
