Gators Crack Top Six for Five-Star Edge Rusher

Gators Make Early Push for Five-Star Edge Rusher

The Florida Gators, who have already assembled one of the nation’s top 2027 recruiting classes, are now emerging as early frontrunners for a standout prospect in the 2028 cycle.

Jalanie George, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound edge rusher from Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Arizona, recently revealed his top six schools: Florida, Auburn, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Washington. George is a five-star recruit in the Rivals Industry, Rivals300, and 247 Composite rankings, earning the No. 1 edge rusher and No. 2 overall spot in the 2028 Rivals300.

Though early in his recruitment, George has been impressed with Florida’s energy and culture. Speaking to On3/Rivals’ Brandon Huffman, he praised the Gators’ staff for their authenticity and intensity, echoing head coach Jon Sumrall’s statements about creating strong, lasting connections with recruits.

George has not set a commitment timeline but plans to visit Florida, Miami, Ohio State, and Oklahoma this summer.

Meanwhile, Florida’s 2027 class continues to gain momentum, now ranked fifth nationally in the Rivals Industry Rankings with 15 commits. The class has been bolstered by recent additions like five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, four-star quarterback Davin Davidson, and four-star tackle Elijah Hutcheson. Several commits rank in the top 10 of their position groups, signaling strong recruiting momentum that could carry into the 2028 cycle.
