Recruiting Roundup: Local Four-Star Guard Visits Cincinnati Bearcats
The Cincinnati Bearcats have been active in basketball recruiting recently, hosting four-star 2027 wing Joshua Tyson from Lakota West (Ohio). Tyson, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound combo guard, is ranked 68th nationally and 10th at his position by 247Sports. He holds 12 offers from programs including Arizona State, Ohio State, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. While he won’t join the already mostly full 2026-27 roster, Tyson could become one of the first standout recruits for Jerrod Calhoun’s staff.
Tyson visited Cincinnati on Monday, with assistant coach Johnny Hill closely monitoring his spring circuit play in Indianapolis. Calhoun emphasized the Bearcats’ mission to dominate in-state recruiting, pointing to recent team success and the importance of building a strong, respected program in Ohio.
In addition to Tyson, Cincinnati has offered four-star 2027 guard Payton Jones from Beaumont United (Texas). The 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard holds 22 offers from schools such as Auburn, Houston, Kansas State, and LSU. Both Tyson and Jones could play key roles in Calhoun’s first wave of freshman recruits, though the 2026 class is essentially set for this fall.
