Virginia Tech Moves Closer to Top-10 Recruiting Class with Commitment from Four-Star TE Jordan Karhoff
Virginia Tech added another major piece to its 2027 recruiting class on Tuesday, securing a commitment from four-star tight end Jordan Karhoff.
The announcement, first reported by On3Sports, gives James Franklin and the Hokies yet another blue-chip prospect as they continue assembling one of the ACC’s strongest recruiting groups.
Karhoff, a standout from Columbus, Ohio, chose Virginia Tech over Miami and several other programs. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is considered the No. 9 tight end nationally, the No. 8 overall player in Ohio, and the No. 192 overall prospect in the 2027 class.
His commitment marks the sixth blue-chip addition for Virginia Tech’s 2027 cycle, joining fellow highly regarded recruits Peter Bourque, Joseph Buchanan, Javian Jones-Priest, Chase Johnson, and Demarcus Brown.
With Karhoff now committed, the Hokies’ 2027 class ranks No. 13 nationally and sits second in the ACC behind Miami. The addition further highlights the recruiting momentum Virginia Tech has built under Franklin as the program works to reestablish itself on the national stage.
At nearly 6-foot-5 and around 215 pounds, Karhoff possesses the athletic profile colleges covet at the tight end position. Though he still has room to add strength and bulk, his size, mobility, and pass-catching skills have already made him one of the more highly recruited tight ends in the country.
With another offseason and his senior year of high school still ahead, Karhoff will have plenty of time to continue developing physically before arriving in Blacksburg. Once he joins the program, Virginia Tech’s strength staff is expected to help him add muscle while maintaining the athleticism that makes him such a difficult matchup.
Karhoff also appears to be an ideal fit for tight ends coach Ty Howle, who has built a strong reputation for developing talent at the position. Howle has consistently coached versatile tight ends capable of contributing both as blockers and receiving threats, while also helping Virginia Tech successfully add impact players through the transfer portal in recent years.
The Hokies’ latest commitment continues a clear recruiting theme within the 2027 class: targeting players with elite size, speed, and upside. Karhoff fits that blueprint perfectly and projects as a player who could eventually create major matchup problems across the ACC.
With plenty of time remaining before the 2027 signing period, Virginia Tech continues strengthening what is quickly becoming one of the conference’s top recruiting classes, and Karhoff’s commitment adds another significant building block for the future.
