Notre Dame Strengthens Loaded Defensive Line Class with Jackson Vaughn Commitment
Notre Dame continued building one of the nation’s top 2027 recruiting classes on Tuesday by securing a commitment from highly regarded defensive lineman Jackson Vaughn.
The talented New Jersey prospect announced he will join Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish, giving Notre Dame yet another major addition along the defensive front. Vaughn is viewed as a top-100 caliber recruit and is ranked No. 104 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Originally part of the 2028 class before reclassifying to 2027, Vaughn chose Notre Dame over programs including LSU and Miami. The Bergen Catholic standout from Oradell, New Jersey, becomes the second defensive end from the state to commit to the Irish this month, joining fellow edge prospect Aidan O’Neil.
Vaughn is now Notre Dame’s 18th commitment in the 2027 cycle and the eighth defensive player in the class. After landing elite defensive line talent in recent cycles such as Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade, Freeman and his coaching staff continue to emphasize building dominance in the trenches.
Notre Dame’s 2027 Defensive Line Haul
The Fighting Irish already boast an impressive group of defensive line commits:
- Aidan O’Neil — 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end, ranked No. 73 nationally by 247Sports
- David Folorunsho — 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive tackle, ranked No. 79 nationally
- Jackson Vaughn — 6-foot-3, 225-pound defensive end, ranked No. 105 overall
- Richie Flanigan — 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive tackle, currently unranked
The recruiting strategy is clear: Notre Dame wants to overwhelm opponents at the line of scrimmage by generating consistent pass rush pressure while also controlling the run game.
While recruiting rankings don’t guarantee future success, the current defensive line foundation in the 2027 class is shaping up to be one of the strongest Notre Dame has assembled in years — and the Irish may not be finished yet.
Additional Defensive Line Targets to Monitor
Brayden Parks — Defensive Lineman, Illinois
Chicago-area standout Brayden Parks remains a major target for Notre Dame. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman ranks among the top players nationally at his position and has also drawn strong interest from Ohio State and Oregon.
Notre Dame has reportedly gained momentum recently in his recruitment. Parks also has family ties to the program, as he is the godson of legendary former Irish defensive lineman Chris Zorich.
Abraham Sesay — Defensive End, Pennsylvania
Another priority target is Abraham Sesay, one of the top edge rushers in the entire 2027 class. The 6-foot-5 prospect from Pennsylvania is ranked No. 27 overall by 247Sports and is considered a high-upside pass-rushing talent.
Sesay still needs to add weight to his frame, but his athleticism and length give him enormous potential at the college level. He plans to visit Notre Dame in June along with stops at LSU, Duke, and Florida State.
Markus Fakatu — Defensive Lineman, California
Notre Dame also remains involved in the recruitment of Sierra Canyon standout Markus Fakatu, a 6-foot-6 defensive lineman regarded as one of the elite defenders in the class.
Although Ohio State currently appears to have momentum, the Irish are still battling and are unlikely to back away from the recruitment anytime soon.
Final Thoughts
Notre Dame’s defensive line recruiting has improved significantly in recent years, but the 2027 class could represent another level entirely.
A major factor has been the addition of defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, who joined the staff after the season. His early recruiting success has quickly become noticeable and could help elevate Notre Dame’s defensive front for years to come.
