Former UCF Forward Jamichael Stillwell Commits to Texas Tech

Former UCF forward Jamichael Stillwell has committed to Texas Tech, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. The 6-foot-8 senior is still awaiting a ruling on an additional year of NCAA eligibility through an injunction.

If approved, Stillwell will suit up for the Red Raiders, marking the fifth stop of his collegiate career. Before arriving at Texas Tech, he played at Miami Dade College, Butler Community College, Milwaukee, and most recently UCF.

Strong Production at UCF

Stillwell spent the 2025-26 season with the Knights, averaging 11.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while helping UCF earn an NCAA Tournament berth as a No. 10 seed.

Before transferring to UCF, he enjoyed a standout season at Milwaukee, where he earned First Team All-Horizon League honors and was named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year.

Joining a Successful Texas Tech Program

Stillwell now joins a Texas Tech program that has flourished under head coach Grant McCasland. Over his first three seasons, McCasland has guided the Red Raiders to a 74-31 overall record, including a 38-18 mark in Big 12 play.

Last season, Texas Tech finished 23-11 overall and 12-6 in conference action, earning a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders advanced to the second round before falling to No. 4 seed Alabama, 90-65.

Following the loss, McCasland praised his team for its resilience and commitment throughout the season.

He emphasized that one disappointing result would not define the players, expressing gratitude for the group’s effort and the relationships built during the year. McCasland also noted that despite the difficult ending, the team had plenty of memorable moments that would be appreciated in the future.

High Expectations Remain for the Red Raiders

Texas Tech is expected to contend near the top of the Big 12 once again next season, led by the return of two-time All-American JT Toppin.

Toppin’s 2025-26 campaign was cut short after he suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Arizona State on Feb. 17, forcing him to miss the Red Raiders’ final eight games. His return, combined with the potential addition of Stillwell, could further strengthen Texas Tech’s outlook for the upcoming season.
