Phoenix Suns Announce Trade with Hornets
The Phoenix Suns have officially confirmed their trade with the Charlotte Hornets ahead of the start of NBA free agency on Monday night.
According to the announcement on Suns.com, the Suns have acquired center Mark Williams and a 2029 second-round draft pick from the Hornets in exchange for guard Vasa Micić, the draft rights to Liam McNeeley, the 29th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and a 2029 first-round pick (the least favorable of Cleveland, Minnesota, and Utah).
Williams, who joins the Suns as a promising addition, posted impressive numbers in the 2024-25 season, averaging 15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 60.4% from the field across 44 games.
The Hornets also released a statement confirming the trade. According to their press release, they have received Micić, McNeeley’s draft rights, the 2029 first-round pick, and the 2025 No. 29 pick in exchange for Williams and the 2029 second-round pick.
Williams, the 15th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Duke, has spent his entire career with the Hornets.
Both teams are coming off disappointing seasons. The Suns finished 11th in the Western Conference with a 36-46 record, missing the playoffs, while the Hornets were 14th in the Eastern Conference with a 19-63 record.
