Myles Turner Criticizes Pacers During Introductory Press Conference with Bucks
Myles Turner’s move from the Indiana Pacers to the Milwaukee Bucks has sparked significant backlash, especially in Indianapolis. His departure, coupled with some of his comments afterward, has rubbed many the wrong way.
At his introductory press conference with the Bucks, Turner was open about what made Milwaukee such an appealing destination. He described the difference in team culture by saying, “My former team, we were just young and hungry. I look at this team as a veteran group of guys that just wanna win by any means necessary. There’s a reason why guys wanna be here. Everybody sees the vision. They don’t re-sign just to do it. I just think there’s a real belief within this organization, and I align myself with that.”
Turner’s words raised eyebrows—did he subtly imply that the Pacers weren’t as committed to winning as the Bucks? Is that why he chose to leave Indiana for a team that attracts other top players?
His choice of language was definitely interesting, leaving room for interpretation. It’s unclear if he intended to directly criticize his former team, or if his comments just naturally hinted at a difference in mentality between the two organizations.
In addition to his comments, reports have suggested that only a small number of his former Pacers teammates reacted to a group chat Turner started, where he informed them of his move to the Bucks.
Turner’s return to Indianapolis will certainly be an intriguing storyline. After spending a decade with the Pacers and coming so close to an NBA title, his decision to join a major rival in the Central Division adds extra drama to the situation.
In response to Turner’s departure, the Pacers have already moved to strengthen their center position, acquiring Jay Huff in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies, while keeping options like Tony Bradley, Isaiah Jackson, and James Wiseman on the roster for the future.
