Dan Quinn’s Explosive Reaction to Commanders’ Loss to Colts in London

Dan Quinn Addresses Commanders’ London Loss, Injuries and Jayden Daniels’ Return

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed the team’s difficult loss to the Indianapolis Colts in London, discussing several injuries, costly mistakes and the possibility of Jayden Daniels returning soon.

Quinn said Marcus Mariota is believed to have suffered an MCL injury and will undergo further testing. Charles Omenihu aggravated a groin injury, while Jaylin Lane suffered a significant ankle injury. The team expects to learn more about all three situations after additional evaluations.

With Mariota leaving the game, rookie quarterback Austin King stepped in and showed confidence despite the difficult circumstances. Quinn praised some of his throws but admitted the team around him did not do enough to support him.

The coach also explained that Terry McLaurin was held out after suffering an injury during Friday’s practice. McLaurin wanted to play, but the team ultimately decided it was better to keep him sidelined.

Quinn said the offensive line decisions were largely based on trying to find the best combination while Sam Cosmi remains unavailable. Matt Peart received an opportunity but is not necessarily locked into a long-term starting role.

Penalties were another major issue for Washington. Quinn pointed to the flags and the team’s inability to turn defensive takeaways into touchdowns as two of the biggest factors in the defeat.

One particularly frustrating moment came when Antonio Gibson appeared to score on an 87-yard play that could have tied the game, only for the touchdown to be erased by an illegal-shift penalty. Quinn admitted the call was deflating, especially in a game where points were difficult to produce.

Despite the loss, Quinn remains hopeful that Jayden Daniels can return soon. Daniels is expected to have a full week of practice beginning Wednesday, and the Commanders hope he can take all the necessary reps before the next game.

Quinn also defended the decision to go for it on fourth down near midfield. With less than a yard to gain, he believed the team had a favorable opportunity to convert and trusted the offense to get the necessary yardage.

The coach also addressed a controversial pass-interference call that was overturned. Officials told him another referee had a different view and determined there was no foul. Quinn said he plans to review the play but understands there was no opportunity to challenge the decision.

If Daniels returns, Quinn believes the offense will benefit from using his mobility, the running game and play-action rather than turning him into a traditional drop-back quarterback. He also emphasized the importance of protecting the football and creating balance offensively.

Quinn explained that questionable officiating decisions are reviewed after games through the league’s normal process. Rather than simply seeking confirmation that a call was right or wrong, he said he wants to understand how similar situations will be officiated in the future.

He also declined to give a firm assessment of the offensive line immediately after the game, saying he wanted more time to review the film and account for the differences between playing with Mariota and King.

Despite the disappointing result, Quinn praised the team’s preparation and defensive start. Washington forced multiple turnovers early and showed signs of improvement after struggling with communication issues during the opening weeks of the season.

After four games, Quinn said his confidence in the team has not changed. He acknowledged that injuries have made things more difficult but believes the Commanders remain a connected and resilient group capable of responding to adversity.

Washington now returns home with plenty to fix before its next NFC East matchup. For Quinn, the message remains clear: clean up the mistakes, get healthy and continue fighting.
