Sad Reports: Clemson DE Sensation Out For NC State Game With Serious Leg Injury

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – Clemson defensive end Peter Woods will miss the game against N.C. State on Saturday due to a leg injury.

The team confirmed Woods’ status roughly 90 minutes before kickoff. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound player sustained the injury two weeks ago from a chop block below the knee during the 66-20 victory over Appalachian State. He briefly returned to the game after being evaluated but did not play in the second half.

The Tigers had a bye last weekend.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney had previously indicated Woods’ condition was “day to day” and noted he hadn’t missed any practices. However, during warmups, Woods was seen in sneakers and sweatpants while other defensive linemen participated in drills.

Woods currently leads the Tigers with 2.5 tackles for loss.

Third-year sophomore Jahiem Lawson is listed as Woods’ backup on the depth chart.

N.C. State will also be without starting quarterback Grayson McCall, who was injured last week in a win over Louisiana Tech. Freshman CJ Bailey will take the starting role for the Wolfpack.
