Cowboys Receive Encouraging Injury Updates

Cowboys Receive Encouraging Injury Updates on Tyler Smith and DeMarvion Overshown Ahead of Week 5

The Dallas Cowboys could be on the verge of getting two important players back as they prepare for their Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After an important 34-30 victory over the Houston Texans in Week 4, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided encouraging updates on the injury situations involving offensive lineman Tyler Smith and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

Dallas desperately needed a strong performance against Houston, and the team delivered. CeeDee Lamb played a major role in the victory, helping the Cowboys improve their record to 2-2.

Following Sunday’s win, Schottenheimer revealed that both Smith and Overshown are making progress in their respective recoveries.

According to Cowboys reporter Tommy Yarrish, Schottenheimer said the two players are “trending positively” toward being available when Dallas faces Tampa Bay on Thursday. However, the coach added that the team may not have a clearer picture of their availability until Tuesday.

Tyler Smith Could Return to the Offensive Line

Smith has been sidelined for roughly a month after undergoing surgery to repair a thumb injury suffered earlier in the season.

The Cowboys initially expected his recovery to take approximately four to six weeks, meaning the offensive lineman is approaching the expected timeframe for a potential return.

Getting Smith back would be a significant boost for Dallas. His presence would strengthen the left side of the offensive line and could provide greater consistency and protection for the Cowboys’ offense.

Overshown Also Closing in on a Return

Overshown has experienced several injury setbacks during his NFL career, and another one came in Week 1 when he suffered a hamstring injury.

The linebacker has been unavailable ever since, but the latest update suggests he could soon be ready to return to the field.

His potential comeback would give Dallas another talented option at linebacker and create an interesting decision for the coaching staff.

Rookie Jaishawn Barham has shown plenty of promise during the opening weeks of the season. Through his first three games, Barham recorded 20 tackles and forced a fumble, quickly establishing himself as a player capable of making an impact.

His involvement decreased significantly in Week 4, however, as he finished the game with just one solo tackle.

Once Overshown is cleared to play, Dallas will have to decide how to distribute the linebacker snaps, particularly alongside Dee Winters.

Cowboys Look to Build on Week 4 Victory

The Cowboys enter Week 5 with a 2-2 record and will be hoping to build on the momentum created by their dramatic win over Houston.

Having Smith and Overshown potentially returning would provide another boost as Dallas prepares for a Thursday night battle with Tampa Bay.

The Cowboys vs. Buccaneers matchup is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on October 8 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
