Texas A&M Aggies: Keep Their Winning Streak Alive, Behind a 250-yard Passing Game From Top Sensation
The Texas A&M Aggies needed a win at home to keep their winning streak alive, and despite a few close calls against the Bowling Green Falcons, it fell in their favor with a 26-20 victory.
It may not have been pretty, but the Texas A&M Aggies managed to secure their third consecutive victory of the season, defeating Bowling Green at home.
Before this matchup, the Aggies needed a win to maintain their momentum ahead of an upcoming road game against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Facing Bowling Green was expected to be a slight break after their challenging game in The Swamp, but it turned out to be nearly as tense.
The Falcons kept the game close, thanks to a 250-yard passing performance from Connor Bazelak, but ultimately lost 26-20, dropping to 1-2 on the season.
Following a strong showing last week, Marcel Reed compelled head coach Mike Elko to make each week’s starter a game-time decision. This week, Reed got the nod over Conner Weigman, and he made the most of it.
The freshman quarterback passed for 173 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Jahdae Walker and Theo Melin Ohrstrom, while also leading the team in rushing with nearly 100 yards on the ground.
Texas A&M started strong with an 11-play opening drive that resulted in a touchdown. However, it wasn’t until early in the second quarter that they scored again, with Randy Bond hitting his first of four field goals.
Despite some offensive struggles, the Aggies’ defense held Bowling Green to just one field goal in the first half. That momentum shifted quickly in the second half when the Falcons began with a 10-yard kickoff return, followed by Bazelak throwing a 65-yard touchdown to Harold Fannin Jr., tightening the game.
The Aggies responded with an eight-play drive that culminated in Reed’s second touchdown of the night, extending their lead to 20-10. Bowling Green quickly answered with a touchdown from running back Rahkeem Smith, but neither team found the end zone again.
Two more field goals from Bond brought Texas A&M’s total to 26, while the Falcons added one more field goal late in the game, finishing with 20. This victory marked Texas A&M’s third win of the season and completed their fourth game overall.
Looking ahead, the Aggies will travel to Arlington to face the Arkansas Razorbacks before returning to Kyle Field for a matchup against the surging Missouri Tigers.
The kickoff for next Saturday’s game is scheduled for the afternoon, with the exact time to be announced.
