Four-Star CB Chase Johnson Commits to Virginia Tech
Chase Johnson, a four-star cornerback from Emanuel County Institute in Twin City, Georgia, has committed to Virginia Tech, choosing the Hokies over Florida State, Georgia, and Louisville, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound defensive back is one of the top prospects in the 2027 class, holding more than 30 offers.
Ranked No. 366 nationally, No. 37 at cornerback, and No. 41 in Georgia by the 247Sports Composite, Johnson is a major addition for head coach Brent Pry and cornerbacks coach Nick Perry, who joined Virginia Tech after coaching in the NFL and at Arkansas.
Virginia Tech successfully recruited Johnson from the Southeast, competing with programs like Florida, Auburn, and Miami earlier in his recruitment. Securing a Georgia prospect over in-state powerhouse Georgia highlights the effectiveness of Franklin and Perry’s recruiting strategy at cornerback.
Perry’s experience at Alabama, in the NFL, and on national championship staffs gives Virginia Tech credibility in the region, helping land a high-profile recruit like Johnson. Beyond cornerback, Johnson also plays running back at Emanuel County, showcasing versatility and athleticism that appeals to college programs nationwide.
