Duke Basketball Secures Official Visit With Coveted 5-Star Prospect

The Blue Devils have officially landed a visit from the top-ranked prospect in the 2028 recruiting class.

Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff have generated significant momentum on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, particularly with prospects from both the 2027 and 2028 classes.

After securing several official visits with highly regarded recruits, Duke has now added another major target to its 2028 recruiting efforts.

Duke Schedules Visit With No. 1 2028 Prospect Colton Hiller

Duke has arranged an official visit with five-star forward Colton Hiller, according to recent reports.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound prospect is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Hiller’s rise to the top spot came after former No. 1 prospect AJ Williams reclassified into the 2027 class. Williams remains another potential recruiting target for Scheyer and the Blue Devils.

Duke extended an offer to Hiller in June, and the highly touted forward has since collected scholarship offers from several prominent programs, including Michigan, Florida State, Auburn, Virginia, Kansas, UConn and North Carolina.

Hiller has also scheduled an official visit with Florida in addition to his upcoming trip to Durham.

The talented forward already has some familiarity with Duke basketball. Last season, Hiller attended the Blue Devils’ 68-63 victory over then-No. 1 Michigan in Washington, D.C.

With Hiller currently sitting atop the national rankings, getting him on campus represents an important development for Duke’s 2028 recruiting class.

Duke Building Momentum in 2027 and 2028 Classes

At this point, Hiller is the only 2028 prospect for whom Duke has officially scheduled a visit. The Blue Devils have also offered five-star center Yann Kamagate, a 7-footer ranked No. 2 in the 2028 247Sports Composite.

However, Kamagate could potentially reclassify into the 2027 class, which would make him an option for Duke’s earlier recruiting cycle.

Duke has also made progress with its 2027 targets over the past several weeks. The Blue Devils have scheduled official visits with five-star wing Asa Montgomery for October 2 and four-star forward Deng Ngor for October 15.

Montgomery recently earned a five-star designation and was teammates with Duke freshman Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje on Team USA at this summer’s FIBA U17 World Cup.

Duke is also involved with several other highly regarded prospects, including Demarcus Henry, AJ Williams and five-star center Lewis Uvwo. Kager Knueppel remains the Blue Devils’ lone commitment in the 2027 class.

Blue Devils Targeting More Size on the Wing

Duke’s recent recruiting activity suggests the program is placing increased emphasis on lengthy wing prospects in the 2027 cycle.

That approach could be particularly important considering the uncertainty surrounding the Blue Devils’ backcourt beyond the upcoming season. Players such as John Blackwell, Caleb Foster, Cayden Boozer and Deron Rippey Jr. are all eligible to play during the 2027-28 college basketball season.

With plenty of potential roster turnover ahead, Scheyer and his staff appear to be positioning Duke to maintain a deep and versatile roster through multiple recruiting classes.
