Steelers Bring Back Linebacker Jacoby Windmon for Another Opportunity
The Pittsburgh Steeler’s have once again reunited with linebacker Jacoby Windmon, signing him for his third stint with the organization.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Windmon, who spent portions of the 2024 and 2025 seasons with Pittsburgh, officially re-signed with the team on June 16.
Windmon played collegiately at UNLV Rebels football and Michigan State Spartans football from 2019 to 2023, compiling 223 tackles and 18.5 sacks in 41 games.
After joining the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2024, he recorded 11 tackles during preseason action before being released during final roster cuts. Pittsburgh later added him to its practice squad, but he was eventually signed to the active roster of the Carolina Panthers, where he finished the season.
Following another round of roster moves between Pittsburgh and Carolina over the next year, Windmon spent part of 2026 with the Columbus Aviators, posting seven tackles and 3.5 sacks in three games before earning another opportunity with the Steelers. He also participated in Pittsburgh’s rookie minicamp earlier this offseason.
Can Windmon Earn a Spot on the 53-Man Roster?
Making the roster as an edge rusher appears unlikely given Pittsburgh’s depth at the position, which includes T. J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and Jack Sawyer.
His best chance may come at inside linebacker, where the Steelers could benefit from additional depth. If the team decides to move on from Malik Harrison, a roster opening could emerge.
According to Pro Football Focus data, Windmon logged 144 snaps in the box during the past two preseasons. His versatility, pass-rushing ability, and special teams value could help his case, but he’ll likely need to show he can contribute consistently at inside linebacker to secure a place on Pittsburgh’s regular-season roster.
