Colorado Expands Texas Recruiting Push With Offer to 4-Star CB Blake Jenkins
The Colorado Buffaloes continue to strengthen their recruiting efforts in Texas, recently extending an offer to four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins as they build their 2027 class.
Jenkins, a standout from Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas, received the offer Wednesday evening from Colorado cornerbacks coach Aaron Fletcher. Fletcher, who has deep coaching ties throughout Texas from previous stops at Houston Christian, Abilene Christian, and several Dallas-Fort Worth high schools, is taking an active role in targeting defensive backs across the state.
Colorado’s push for Jenkins comes as the Buffaloes look to reinforce their secondary following the departure of top cornerback DJ McKinney, who transferred to Notre Dame in January 2026. With a younger defensive back group entering the season, Jenkins could become a major addition for the future.
The 6-foot-1 defensive back possesses many of the traits top programs value. He combines strong straight-line speed with disciplined coverage skills, allowing him to stay with receivers deep while also making plays on the ball. Jenkins also excels in short-area coverage thanks to his patience, awareness, and quick reactions. His ability to break up passes and disrupt screen plays makes him an appealing fit for Colorado’s defensive system.
His physical style and tight man coverage have drawn comparisons to the type of defensive backs coach Deion Sanders values, with some similarities to former Buffaloes star Travis Hunter and even a young Sanders himself.
However, Colorado faces stiff competition in Jenkins’ recruitment. He recently named a top six that includes Houston, SMU, Texas, Vanderbilt, Michigan, and Alabama. The Buffaloes’ late entry into the race could reshape his recruitment, but they will need a strong push from Fletcher, defensive coordinator Chris Marve, and Sanders to compete with the established powerhouse programs pursuing him.
