2027 Four-Star Offensive Tackle Dewey Young Chooses Colorado Over Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech fell short in its pursuit of another highly regarded recruit for its 2027 class, as four-star offensive tackle Dewey Young announced his commitment to Colorado.
Young entered his decision with four finalists—Georgia Tech, Colorado, Georgia, and Vanderbilt—but ultimately chose to play for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.
The 6-foot-5, 327-pound lineman becomes Colorado’s fifth offensive line commitment and the 20th pledge in the Buffaloes’ 2027 recruiting class.
Colorado’s 2027 class currently ranks No. 35 nationally and fourth in the Big 12. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech holds the No. 24 recruiting class in the country and ranks fifth in the ACC, trailing Miami, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Cal.
A standout at Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Young is regarded as one of the nation’s top offensive line prospects. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 275 overall prospect, the No. 24 offensive tackle nationally, and the No. 7 player in Michigan. In addition to his finalists, Young received scholarship offers from programs including South Carolina, Purdue, Syracuse, Auburn, Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida State, Indiana, Ohio State, and others.
Georgia Tech Still Boasts an Impressive Offensive Line Group
Although landing Young would have further strengthened Georgia Tech’s already impressive recruiting haul, his decision does little to diminish the work Brent Key and his coaching staff have accomplished over the past month.
The Yellow Jackets have assembled what could be Key’s strongest offensive line class since taking over the program. The group currently features commitments from four-star offensive tackle Joshua Sam-Epelle, four-star offensive lineman Kal-El Johnson, three-star interior offensive linemen Jordan Dillon and Jaiden Thompson, and three-star offensive lineman Braylin Mills.
Overall, Georgia Tech’s 2027 class remains in excellent shape with 26 commitments. While adding another wide receiver or a couple of cornerbacks could still be a priority before signing day, the class is largely complete.
The focus now shifts to keeping the group intact through the remainder of the recruiting cycle. Holding onto a highly ranked class can be just as challenging as assembling it, but if the Yellow Jackets can secure signatures from their current commitments, this class has the potential to make a significant impact on the program in the years ahead.
