Houston Makes Surprise Addition With Former Arizona State Safety Myles “Ghost” Rowser
The Houston Cougars have added an experienced piece to their defense just before the 2026 college football season gets underway.
According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Houston has landed former Arizona State safety Myles “Ghost” Rowser. The veteran defensive back was granted an additional season of eligibility following a court ruling involving members of the 2022 recruiting class.
Rowser is coming off an All-Big 12 Third Team campaign with Arizona State and brings several years of starting experience to Houston’s defense.
Rowser Brings Veteran Experience to Houston
Rowser began his college career at Campbell before making a name for himself at New Mexico State in 2023. After establishing himself as one of Conference USA’s better safeties, he transferred to Arizona State, where he played during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Across his first four seasons, Rowser appeared in 52 games and started 41 of them. He finished that stretch with 295 total tackles, including 174 solo tackles, as well as 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 14 pass breakups and two interceptions.
He also earned a starting role for Arizona State in the 2024 College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Texas at the Peach Bowl.
For head coach Willie Fritz and Houston, adding a player with that much experience so late in the offseason is a significant boost. The Cougars enter 2026 with higher expectations, and Rowser could provide valuable leadership and production on defense.
However, his late arrival means he will still have to compete for a starting position. Players such as Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen are expected to be part of that competition.
Regardless of where he begins on the depth chart, Rowser has the experience to become an important contributor to Houston’s defensive success this season.
Rowser Strengthens Houston’s Transfer Class
Rowser is rated as a three-star transfer prospect, but that ranking may not accurately represent what he can bring to the Cougars. His production and experience could make him one of the more valuable additions to Houston’s roster.
He joins an impressive transfer class featuring talent at several positions.
Among Houston’s other additions are Texas Tech wide receiver Tyson Turner, Oregon defensive lineman Ashton Porter, Ole Miss linebacker Jaden Yates, Oregon running back Makhi Hughes, Oregon State wide receiver Trent Walker, Stephen F. Austin cornerback Jalen Mayo, Florida wide receiver Muizz Tounkara and UTSA tight end Patrick Overmyer.
It remains unclear whether Rowser will ultimately become the standout player from Houston’s transfer group, but his experience as an All-Big 12 safety makes him an intriguing addition.
The Cougars will begin their 2026 campaign on Saturday, September 5, when they take on the Oregon State Beavers.
