Alabama Lands Early Momentum with 2028 Standout Anthony Blalock Jr.
Alabama continues to make a strong impression on elite young talent, and its latest move for four-star offensive tackle Anthony Blalock Jr. could prove to be an important one.
The Crimson Tide welcomed the Ohio native to campus for a camp session on June 17, where the visit concluded with one of the biggest milestones of his recruitment—a scholarship offer from head coach Kalen DeBoer.
Although Blalock is still in the early stages of the 2028 recruiting cycle, Alabama has already positioned itself among the programs making the strongest impression.
Kalen DeBoer Personally Extended the Offer
Following camp, Blalock met with DeBoer, who personally delivered the scholarship offer.
Speaking with BamaOnLine, the rising offensive lineman described the memorable moment.
“Coach DeBoer brought me into his office to talk with me and my brother,” Blalock said. “He talked about why he was interested in me, what Alabama has to offer, and then he offered me a scholarship.”
Receiving a direct offer from Alabama’s head coach is a major moment for any recruit, particularly one who is only entering his junior year of high school.
The trip also marked Blalock’s first face-to-face meeting with offensive line coach Adrian Klemm after previously building a relationship through recruiting conversations.
Alabama Coaches Impressed by His Development
The Crimson Tide coaching staff emphasized that Blalock’s offer wasn’t simply based on projection. Both DeBoer and Klemm pointed to the progress they’ve seen in his game.
“[DeBoer] and Coach Klemm both told me they really liked my film and noticed how much I’ve improved with my movement from watching my camp performance,” Blalock explained.
Already measuring 6-foot-5 and around 320 pounds, Blalock possesses the size and athletic traits that have made him one of the nation’s most intriguing young offensive line prospects.
According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, he is currently rated as a four-star recruit, a top-300 overall player nationally, one of the top offensive tackles in the 2028 class, and among Ohio’s highest-ranked prospects.
Tuscaloosa Visit Exceeded Expectations
Blalock’s first experience in Tuscaloosa left a lasting impression.
After touring Alabama’s facilities and experiencing the program firsthand, he came away highly impressed with what he saw.
“I loved it. The atmosphere was second to none.”
The visit was impactful enough that Blalock is already hoping to return this fall for a game-day experience, although he has not yet finalized those plans.
A return trip during the season would give Alabama another opportunity to continue strengthening its relationship with one of the Midwest’s premier young offensive linemen.
Alabama Already Among His Favorites
Despite the recruiting process being in its early stages, Blalock has already attracted interest from several major programs, including Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State, Indiana, Texas Tech, North Carolina, Louisville, Iowa State, and others.
Even with that level of competition, Alabama has quickly climbed into the mix.
“I loved it. Coach DeBoer and Coach K were great. They’re definitely in my top five right now.”
Considering this was his first visit to campus, Alabama’s early position is notable. With another visit already being planned and the coaching staff making a strong first impression, the Crimson Tide appears to be in excellent shape as Blalock’s recruitment continues over the next two years.
