Four-Star Class of 2027 Commits to Virginia Tech

Four-Star 2027 Big Man Tyran Frazier Commits to Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech has landed its first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, with four-star forward Tyran Frazier announcing his decision to join the Hokies on Tuesday, according to Rivals.

The 6-foot-9 Frazier is regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2027 class and is ranked inside the national top 60 by multiple recruiting services.

247Sports scouting director Adam Finkelstein previously highlighted Frazier’s combination of size, athleticism, length and versatility. The prospect stands around 6-foot-8 without shoes, owns a 7-foot-1 wingspan and has a strong frame that still has room to develop physically.

Frazier has shown the ability to make an impact around the basket as a lob target, rim runner and transition finisher. He also possesses soft hands and impressive touch, while showing flashes of an improving face-up game despite having unconventional shooting mechanics.

247Sports currently ranks Frazier No. 59 nationally in the 2027 class. He is listed as the No. 7 center in the country and the No. 2 prospect in Missouri. The 247Sports Composite has him eight spots higher nationally at No. 51 while keeping him at No. 7 among centers and No. 2 in Missouri.

Finkelstein also praised Frazier’s defensive versatility, noting that he already has the tools to play multiple positions and could become even more versatile as he continues to add strength.

However, the young big still has areas of his game to develop. His physicality, consistency and overall motor have fluctuated, although those aspects have recently started moving in a positive direction.

Rivals ranks Frazier No. 52 nationally, making him the No. 5 power forward and No. 2 player in Missouri. ESPN has him at No. 58 overall, No. 13 at his position and No. 3 in the state.

Virginia Tech was one of eight Power Four programs to offer Frazier, joining Cincinnati, Miami, Mississippi State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and West Virginia. The Hokies extended their offer on July 25.

Despite not putting together the grassroots season he had hoped for, Finkelstein believes Frazier has significant upside because of his two-way skill set.

During the grassroots season, Frazier averaged 8.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 0.3 blocks in just under 17 minutes per game.

His commitment gives Virginia Tech its first piece of the 2027 recruiting class and brings the Hokies to 15 scholarship players currently projected to be eligible for the 2027-28 season.
